Bio/Abstract

If we were to challenge you to include climate change communication in every program you give, could you, do it? Would you, do it? Should you, do it? We think so!

We all know the climate crisis requires action now if we are to avoid drastic and irrevocable changes to the resources and sites we all love and care about. The health and livelihoods of our fellow citizens, our economies, and our ecosystems depend upon the choices we all make over the next few years. As communicators we don’t get very many opportunities with an attentive and interested audience, we need to seize those fleeting moments and make them count!

How can we do this and make it seem relevant to the moment and topic? How can we seamlessly weave the threads of climate change communication into the fabric of our seemingly unassociated programs? And perhaps most importantly, how can we receive support and approval from our colleagues, our supervisors, and our agencies?

In this Climate In Your Pocket, we welcome an all-star panel of public-land leaders from the National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management. They share how they have implemented and encouraged comprehensive climate change communication in all aspects of interpretive programming.  We also discuss how to encourage and train staff, and garner support from leadership.
