Our friends from the planetary science communications team at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center are leading an Ocean Worlds Communications Campaign, and you are invited to participate! To provide you with an introduction to the associated cool research, info and fun NASA stuff, we hosted a webinar.
What’s So Special About “Ocean Worlds?”
In the past few decades, our understanding of our solar system and planets outside our solar system has expanded drastically. We now know that there are moons in our solar system and planets outside our solar system that contain large amounts of liquid water. We call these ‘ocean worlds.’ Ocean worlds contain up to ten times the amount of water relative to land as our own planet and are the best candidates in our search for life outside of Earth.
NASA’s research on oceans also includes our own planet and helps us to better understand the role of Earth’s ocean in our planet’s climate system. The Ocean Worlds Communication Campaign provides a great opportunity to draw connections between your site, Earth’s ocean and worlds beyond Earth.
During the webinar NASA scientist Dr. Bethany Theiling describes what constitutes an Ocean World and discusses her current research in this field. NASA Goddard’s planetary science public engagement lead Andrea Jones provides details about NASA’s ocean worlds campaign, related resources, and the opportunity to participate.
