Rafael grew up in southern California. He first interned with the NPS in 2014. He used his degree in geological physics to research cave formations there and give talks to the public. He quickly realized how much he loved doing the latter and made a career out of it. He's worked at various parks doing interpretation and education including Oregon Caves, Yellowstone, Zion, Golden Gate, and Tonto. He just started at James A Garfield in Ohio, hoping to find a patch of night sky that can compare to those in the West.
