Bio/Abstract

For the second day of Recharge! we were joined by Dr. Anna Bergstrom. She received her PhD from University of Colorado, studying how dust influences melt on glaciers in Antarctica. Dr. Bergstrom's current research focuses on intermittent streams in Idaho, and she teaches courses on hydrology, biogeochemistry, and glaciology at Boise State University.

Dr. Bergstrom facilitated two interactive sessions for ETS Idaho. This session centered around the idea that dry soils and accumulated drought counter even normal snowpack in the West. Using various datasets, she showed how rates of snow accumulation and melt in the mountains affect summer streamflow, and how agricultural irrigation has impacted groundwater levels. The second session explored the history of water rights in Idaho.
