How do we know that glaciers are receding, fires are larger or hotter, insect infestations are vast, ecosystems are shifting…? Landsat satellite imagery gives scientists the ability to see beyond our human range of vision, revealing changes we cannot see with the naked eye and providing insights we did not have just 50 years ago. Repeat images provide undeniable evidence of regional and global changes in our forests, ice caps, towns, farms and coasts. You can produce a high-resolution image of your own site or location using different bands to highlight different kinds of change on the landscape. In this video, Mike Taylor guides you through the creation of your own Landsat image using Adobe Photoshop. (If you don't have access to Photoshop, freeware exists with similar capabilities).
