Dr. John Abatzoglou joins ETS-Idaho to discuss drought's far-reaching impacts on the West. Specifically, he details how our agriculture may be impacted and what we can do to prepare. Will Idaho be the country's center of almond production? Dr. Abatzoglou explores what our climate analogues are, what we may be able to produce, and what might happen to our snow.

Dr. John Abatzoglou is interested in the "hows and whys of climate and weather, and also the so whats". He earned his doctoral degree in Earth Systems Science from the University of California Irvine. His research interests span the weather-climate continuum and their influence on drought, wildfire and agriculture. He joined the University of Idaho College of Science faculty in 2009 and worked on a five-year $15 million National Science Foundation project that applied climate science to better understand water resources and climate change. He is currently an Associate Professor of Climatology at University of California, Merced.
