Presenters: Dr. Bryan Mendez, and Dr. Laura Peticolas, Multiverse, U.C. Berkeley. We'll explore fascinating aspects of our dynamic Sun, such as the solar cycle of magnetic activity with emphasis on the corona. To the naked eye the Sun’s corona is only visible during total solar eclipses – a feature that has intrigued and fascinated people for centuries. The unique view of the corona during these events continues to be of interest to solar scientists, despite amazing new technologies that allow us to view the Sun in ways never before possible. We’ll explain what makes this eclipse exceptional, and how citizen scientists can gather important data that will help advance our understanding of the Sun.
