Bio/Abstract

Since 2015, NASA’s Arctic Boreal Vulnerability Experiment (ABoVE), has involved hundreds of scientists in a large-scale study to examine environmental change across the Arctic and gain a better understanding of the vulnerability and resilience of ecosystems and society to this changing environment. As the campaign enters its third and final phase of studies, and as they synthesize their work and determine the answers to their key questions, new communication products may be developed to share those results. Earth to Sky is in a position to help create and develop some of those products, not only for their audiences in the Arctic, but across the country, as well.

Dr. Elizabeth Hoy is Senior Support Scientist with the Carbon Cycle and Ecosystems Office at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.

Dr. Hoy’s scientific research interests are in geography, landscape ecology and disturbance mapping within the boreal forests of North America. She utilizes GIS and Remote Sensing to understand aspects of the disturbance regime, most recently researching the influence of a changing fire frequency on carbon consumption in Alaskan black spruce forests.

In her work for the Carbon Cycle and Ecosystems office at NASA she has moved into support science where she provides various types of support for the Arctic-Boreal Vulnerability Experiment (ABoVE) including geographical and data management, assistance in developing the high performance computing systems, and even cartographic, GIS, web mapping and data display support.
